You have the right to get a free credit report every year.

That’s a privilege approved by the law, and that’s something you as a consumer should take advantage of to keep your credit score and records in good shape.

With a free credit report, you can easily find errors and inaccuracies in your credit history and have them corrected by the credit bureau – Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax, within 30 days according to law.

Not to mention you can easily ward and prevent the threats of identity theft and credit fraud if you’re well updated with a free credit report.

This gets really handy, huh?

BUT sadly, many have also taken advantage of it in a not so nice way.

I’m sure you’ve seen many websites from left, right, and center are offering free credit report…PROVIDED that you sign up for a 30-day trial after which you’ll be charged a fee.

I don’t know about you BUT that doesn’t sound free to me!

You see, what they’re really offering is NOT your free credit report. It’s another service – it can be a credit monitoring service, identity theft protection, etc. that you’ll be paying for.

The free credit report is just a perk.

Now that may sound nice when you first encounter it. BUT the thing is that many of these websites and companies are actually counting on you to forget about the trial period so they can take their share of cash from your credit card!

Not really nice after all, huh?

So you end up paying for your supposed-to-be free credit report along with the credit monitoring service, fraud alert, etc. when all that you wanted was your report.

It’s about time for you to be alert about these websites whenever you’re surfing for a free credit report.

I won’t be stopping you from taking up the free trial they’re offering…BUT please, make sure that you cancel the service after you’ve taken your free credit report. Now if you think the service they’re offering is well worth it, by all means, go for it!

Just make sure you don’t end up paying for something that’s supposed to be free.

And one more thing, whenever you’re transacting with these kinds of websites where you have to input your credit card information and other VERY important details, make sure that you’re doing it securely.

Always check the URL. It should have “https” instead of the usual “http”. You may also want to see if they have any certifications and recommendations from online institutions like BBB, SSL, etc.

You’d better be safe than sorry.

“What’s with all of these websites offering free credit reports?”

“Why do free credit reports, records, and scores matter so MUCH…so much that people take care of them like they’re taking care of a baby?”

If you are someone who doesn’t use a credit card or someone who doesn’t use credit at all, perhaps these questions are lingering at the back of your head.

And I’ll be answering those questions in a minute. Trust me, after reading this article, you’ll know why these free credit reports matter so much and you’ll understand why you should keep an eye on your credit score and status.

First, let’s see what’s in a free credit report.

Basically, a free credit report is…well, a report about how you’re doing with your credit and your history with it. A report includes –

- Personal information
- Financial accounts you’ve opened
- Payments you’ve made
- Payments skipped

And that goes along with a FICO score – a sneak preview used by banks and financial institutions to see how well or bad you are doing and if you should be approved for any form of financing that you apply for.

What makes this important?

See, many people, especially those who’re transacting almost every minute, need an up-to-date free credit report to check if their credit is healthy or not. Many loans, mortgages, credit card applications, etc. have been declined because of a bad credit score which could’ve been fixed by having a look at a free credit report.

“BUT what if I don’t have to apply for those?” you might ask.

That’s a good question, and here’s the answer.

As someone working from a bank, I have seen people just like you who think they don’t have anything to do with credit falling victims to crimes like identity theft and credit fraud. Someone, without their knowledge, has used their financial and credit information to get some form of loan or financing.

So what’s the end result? They have to pay for something they didn’t ask for in the first place. If they’re able to fix that part, they still have to go through a long and tedious process to get back their credit in shape.

I don’t know about you BUT getting a free credit report to spot for any inaccuracies and prevent any identity theft and fraud is easier than having to go through such hassle.

Don’t bump your head just like many people before you did. Get your free credit report right after reading this and know what’s in it!

You are entitled to receive one free credit report from any of the 3 credit bureaus – Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian.

“BUT so what?! Does it matter?” you might exclaim.

Believe it or not, even you’re just an average Jane or Joe without a credit card and gets money solely from your 9-to-5 job, getting your free credit report and, more importantly, scrutinizing it matters a BIG deal!

You may or may NOT have anything to do with your credit and looking at your report is still essential. As a financial expert in a bank, I’ve seen people coming into the bank…sometimes outside banking hours, crying and angry.

Why?

Because they just found out that their credit score and records are not in great shape…somebody else without their knowledge used their financial details. Many have been victims of credit fraud and identity theft.

Now, they either have to pay for something they didn’t get or have to go through a long arduous process to get their credit records and scores fixed.

These are BIG problems that could’ve been prevented with a simple step namely getting a free credit report and reading through it carefully.

You see, your free credit report from the 3 credit bureaus I’ve mentioned contain all of your credit’s history and details.

And all means…

- Your basic and personal information
- Your financial accounts
- How long the financial accounts have existed
- Payments you’ve made
- Payments skipped

In simpler terms, your free credit report is detailed enough to let you know how you’re doing with your credit and if there are inaccuracies that needs to be corrected. Not to mention you’ll be able to nip crimes like identity theft and fraud right in the bud.

In this day and age where almost every transaction you make, especially BIG ones like getting a loan or a mortgage, are decided GREATLY by how your credit is doing, getting a free credit report to safeguard your financial details is a MUST.

I don’t know about you BUT I’d better be safe than sorry. And after all, getting a free credit report annually from the said 3 credit bureaus is free.

Whether you have to phone in, mail, or go online to see your free credit report, get yours now and know what’s in it.

Trust me, your financial situation and future may depend on it.
