Of course a low credit score is a prospect that most of us would not like to be faced with. However, often one gets miserable scores out of poor financial habits and recklessness in financial dealings. One common way to bounce back from a financial downslide is to take up a personal loan. However, with a poor credit score, will that be ever possible? Read on for an elaborate answer.

The role of credit histories and scores

First things first. We need to know why and how the credit history and the credit score is related to the decision involved with the loan sanctions. This is because of the fact that lenders consider the credit score as a mode of judging if a person is financially worthy to be given a loan. A poor credit history proves the point that a person is risky in terms of being lent an amount. It also proves carelessness with repayment and the like. Therefore, this does not create a favorable impression when it comes to loans.

More Details

Every missed payment, arrear and failed payments are reflected on the credit report, thus there is no way to escape these. However, there is a better side to this dreary situation as well. With a little bit of prudence and grit, individuals can start working upon their credit scores and improve it before applying for a loan. Moreover, there are certain special loans for those with poor credit. These come at a rate much above those for normal loans, but are helpful nevertheless.

Improving credit status

The only way to get a decent interest rate on a loan is to improve the credit score. The first step towards this is to keep track of the present credit status. Other than one annual free credit check that every American makes use of, there is a dire need for monthly checks from any of the three online bureaus against a nominal rate. The Experian, TransUnion and the Equifax are the three private agencies in this regard. Once an analysis of the financial habits and the weak points are made, then it becomes easier to try and improve those points. Shut down lines of credit that are not very important. Be more systematic about paying the installments. Maintain the credit cards so that you do not end up in credit card debt.

Conclusion

Though it is a bit tough to get a loan with bad credit, it is not impossible. Credit scores are bound to improve if it is tried with diligence. Moreover, while a loan application is being filled, there is a space asking the purpose of the loan. In such a case, it would be foolhardiness to mention that a new loan is being sought to clear off existing debts. This leads to lowering of confidence of the bankers. Be clever and negotiate with the lenders. A little tact and planning can open up lot of doors. One cannot conclude that bad credit means shutting down of doors.

So are you involved in preparing for the job interview desiring to crack it? Probably all the certificates, resume, and the like are on the right order. However, have you paid heed to your credit report? There is no cause of a surprised reaction! The credit reports have come to a play a very important role in today’s life.

All employers scan the reports of an applicant to analyze his financial responsibility. It has been seen that those with better financial responsibility are more responsible at their workplace as well. Initially, it had been seen that employers would check on the credit reports if the job involved any handling of finances. However, most sectors today consider this check mandatory.

Checking the Credit Reports by Employers

If you have been wondering how the employers check on the credit reports, the answer is simple. They need to approach one of the several credit bureaus for information. Moreover, there is a federal sanction allowing such a check. There are clauses in the application terms whereby it is clearly stated that as a prospective employee, an individual gives the employers full right to go over their credit reports. The one thing that is to be noted here is that, the leading credit bureaus reveal all parts of the credit reports inclusive of the loans, dues, credit and the like. However, the parts with the birth dates, references to the accounts of your partner and the account numbers are not revealed to the employers.

There is no cause to worry, since this check comes under soft check and no matter how many employers refer the credit report, the final credit score is not going to be affected. The credit score too is not available to the employers. They get hands on only the information on the report. Thus, they need to form an idea about the credit worthiness of a person from the information shown on the report.

There are laws that specify the provision of a copy of the credit report to the individual. In case there is a negative decision for the job because of the credit report, the employer is legally liable to provide a copy of the same with all details of rejection to the applicant. There are certain consumer rights too which the applicants are made aware of.

Summing Up

The best part is that, though the credit reports are very integral documents, it is not probable that this alone would be a factor for the employer to hire someone. A good credit history is impressive while a poor is not. However, other things like experience, qualifications, references and the like too are important to the hiring process. A fair credit report is justified. In case, you have an absolutely poor one, then perhaps it is better to improve the report first. Try closing unused lines of credit, pay dues and installments on time. This would stand in good stead not only in the job scenario but also in the long run for all other aspects.

The credit history is the backbone of any financial dealing at the present times. With the lending authorities, insurance firms and all related organizations having become more stringent about whom it chooses to deal with and the like, the importance of credit scores cannot be undermined. In fact, even auto insurances are not independent of the credit history of an individual. In the present scenario, the auto insurance polices and the rates too are governed by the credit worthiness of a person. The chief reason behind paying so much heed to the history of credit is that a person with a good credit history stands as one with a lesser risk for the insurance company.

Is this Fair?

A general question that has been doing the rounds is whether it is fair on the part of auto insurance firms to keep a check on the credit history of the applicant. While personal opinions may vary, the federal authorities have given this a green signal. Therefore, your auto insurance application may be sanctioned only after the agency conducts a check into your credit history, information and relevant things. Since these are sole determinants in the process of sanction, it is best to avoid the insurance firms at the top in case you have a credit history not worth showing.

Insurance Credit Score

This is an index of determining the premiums rates for an individual in case of car insurances. This index is calculated on the basis of the techniques that help in understanding the probability of any customer suffering some expected loss. Thus, this is the insurance equivalent for the index that a leader might use to judge the repayment capacity of a borrower. Given below is a list of factors that are taken into account by the insurance firms:

The credit being used by the individual

Credit Inquiry frequency

Payment histories and arrears or dues in the name of the individual

Any kind of public record including foreclosure bankruptcy

The Open lines of credit

The length of the individual’s credit history

The applicants for auto insurance must keep another integral point in mind about the fact that the insurance credit scores would be different based on the car insurance company they choose to deal with. Every insurance firm has its own criteria and terms. Thus, an overall decent credit history would be beneficial.

Sometimes, it has been observed that consumers complain about having been beguiled by an insurance company on the basis of an erroneous credit history. For such issues, they can approach the firm directly and notify this. After this, the credit bureaus can be approached for any rectifications. The latter are bound to look into such grievances within a month of a complaint being filed. Once any modification in the credit history comes about, the consumers can get renewed rates on the car insurance. A final tip to round off the discussion is that once there is the question of insurance renewal, ask the agency to reevaluate the credit score.

Bad credit is like bad breath, it might not make one very uncomfortable but it sure does repel anybody approaching you especially when one applies of credit. Not only will this bad piece of credit affect the power of repayment but the bad credit will adversely affect credit rating too.

What exactly is Bad Credit?

At this juncture, it would be required for one to understand that bad credit is acquired when one fails to meet the requirements of the credit agreement, Bad credit is usually accumulated over unsecured loans like credit cards, master cards, debit cards and the like wherein the borrower spends more than his paying capacity over a period of months such that a time comes when the monthly payments are miniscule compared to the amount outstanding against the card.

All late payments and instances of non payment are initially reported to agencies referring credit namely – TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. When one applies for a loan the lenders go through the data available to them and the findings revealed through this search has a great role in determining the reliability and repayment capacity of the individual.

Effects of Bad Credit

A history of bad credit diminishes the likelihood of acquiring loan and even a credit card. While inability to repay credit might be seen as a higher rate at which one borrows, a vicious circle of the same will ensure a poor history of credit. Most lenders consider the lapses on the borrower’s part as grave and decline credit. Another fact revealed by studies is that people with bad credit are more susceptible to claiming certain policies when compared to others and hence one comes across insurers checking out credit scores of individuals before dolling out life insurance, home and car premiums.

However, the borrower is not always wrong, since several credit reports are found to have supplied incorrect information on the credit rating of an individual. One must always get the free report on credit and look for errors in it. In case of errors one may get these errors corrected as per the Act of Reporting of Fair Credit.

Bad Credit Recovery Procedure

Individuals facing bad credit may always apply for debt consolidation loans or even opt for debt consolidation programs. Under these the individual is presented with one loan to repay all his other minor loans. Debt consolidation programs will assess the paying capacity of the individual by taking into account all his assets and liabilities and then chalk out a comprehensive and easy monthly payment plan. They would first finish all outstanding dues by means of single loan and then start the monthly instalment for repayment of this loan. Usually one can easily contact finance management companies which provide these services even online. They will not only counsel the individual but also provide legal expertise on the subject. To avoid a history of bad credit, rethink your options and consider such schemes. After all, fewer loans mean lesser stress levels and happier lives.

If you had been thinking that, the annual free credit report you had got hands on and the report from the paid credit bureaus are perfect and that you know your credit standing; then you could not be more wrong!

The CFPB, the new regulatory body that has been established has stated that the consumers see one picture of the credit report while the authorities and corporation see something else. In simpler terms, the consumer copies of the credit reports are mere copies for individuals for understanding their financial habits. However, lending authorities see a more elaborate copy whereby they calculate the credit worthiness as per their own terms and standards.

This difference in the credit reports that both sets of viewers see can be accounted due to a number of reasons. Though there are many technicalities involved, the simplest causes are outlined as under:

The consumers get reports for awareness and educational purposes. The authorities’ generally custom make the credit scores and refer the reports to catch up on certain integral financial information about the individual.

Several credit-reporting agencies give scores against a fee. This also has discrepancies in that the way the scores are calculated, and are different for every bureau, which leads to a difference in the overall credit scores.

Moreover, every type of score is a result of a scoring model. Since the models are different, the process followed too is different. Certain organizations have their own credit score calculation outlines that one is not even aware of. Thus, this difference arises.

To conclude the discussion, one point to be noted is that the credit scores are bound to change every year. Therefore, it is integral to get hands on a fresh report and score annually. There is no use lagging behind. Good luck!

If you are constantly falling behind on your payments, your credit report would show the impact distinctly. However, there is a chance to improve credit rating at any given time (in fact, even after filing for bankruptcy). People generally try wise tricks with credit cards to do so. However, not everyone is predisposed towards using credit cards and few look to avert them altogether. Let us then take a look at a few steps to build credit score without the help of cards.

1. A Bank Account Worked 100 years ago, will Work 100 years Hence

As a first, you should look to open a bank account. In this account, you can start with a meager sum (of course, above the minimum maintenance balance). This world has seen many inventions in the world of finance and yet there is nothing as sweet and impresses as much stability as the good old bank account.

2. Look for Credit-like Plastics

Next, you should look for credit-like cards. Now, obviously your idea behind not taking a card was not some kind of “plasticophobia”, it was that you might fail to pay in time. However, a few secured cards only allow you an amount worth your bank balance. In short, cash in your bank is indirect collateral against your credit card and even if you run astray and splurge, you will not be able to spend more than you can pay. With such cards, it is important to keep two things in mind:

You must keep a healthy Credit Ratio- outstanding /available.

You must keep them in operation, even if with a minor purchase each month, and look to pay in time.

3. Look for Loans as a Substitute to Credit Card

If you do not want to buy credit cards, take a few loans if you can fetch them. It might seem a dubious reflection on our credit system when procuring loans become an idea for bettering credit score but the fact is that the process works. Again, you must look forward to only those loans that you can pay in time. If it is hard for you to fetch a loan, you can use a co-signor who has some influence on the lenders and can offer you a hand.

4. Consolidate Revolving Loans

The next step shall be to consolidate all your unsecured revolving loans under one head. This method helps you to create a minimum mortgage for yourself and lesser interest burden per month. Naturally, you come on course to establish good credit.

To sum it up

These are only some of the methods through which you can secure a good credit score without having to buy ‘actual’ credit cards. If you follow the steps judiciously and with some rigor, you will soon have your FICO rating in the zone of comfort.

Borrowers and lenders have not been able to revive the camaraderie they had before the recession years. It is as if some spark has been extinguished never to be realized again. This has given birth to higher numbers of breach of contracts and reporting errors. Naturally, disputing credit reports have become a norm. In this regard, it can help you a lot if you have a daily credit monitoring service at your disposal. Let us read a little about it.

Makes Immediate Disputing Possible

It gives you the great facility of disputing anything immediately. This allows you to hold on to a situation better. The lenders also get a direct signal that any mistake they make (typos or actual breach of contract or a grudge unleashed) is not left unnoticed and quite soon it would reach the reporting chambers of credit bureaus. Naturally, the lenders try to play safe because deep down their own reputation is at stake.

In other way of explanation, daily credit report monitoring gives a psychological boost to the borrowers who are in the right. Without this facility, the lenders always have an edge as they know that even if their ill intent is found out, the borrowers may find the process tedious and leave disputing. With something like daily monitoring service, thought of such cushion does not exist in the mind of the lenders.

You Are Up to Date with the Latest Alterations

You get to know about the reports of the three credit rating agencies operating nationally. Experian, Equifax and Transunion are responsible for the kind of credit score you have. Naturally, you would desire to get hooked to the latest alterations they make for you, in absence of a daily credit report, you get close to your credit page only once a month or once in two months. This again comes at a price. For the starters, there is only one free report per year from the three agencies.

You are in Line with your Lenders

Daily monitoring service allows you exactly the same report that your creditors and lenders look at. Thus, you can very well figure out what is your position in relation to a creditor. For instance, it gives you a crystal clear idea whether you are good for a loan from a particular creditor.

Becomes Possible to Tackle Identity Theft

Identity theft has taken the financial world by storm. It is one crime that is on a constant rise. Daily monitoring allows you to detect sudden changes in your report and hence guards you against identity thefts.

The final word

These examples are enough to cement the importance of daily credit monitoring service. If you use them, you will be far more updated than many others and will be able to play the game your way.
